This is a perfect replica of the original VW key fob minus the internal circuit board and RFID chip, which you can transfer from your original. I was able to get the key blank cut to match the original by taking it to a hardware store with up-to-date car key duplicator, and it was a free dupe because I brought my own blank (that came with the fob). Then I opened up the original fob, removed the circuit board and battery and transferred them to the new fob. I open up the upper part of the fob (removing a tiny phillips head screw) and removed the small glass ampule containing the RFID chip, then transferred that to the new fob with a dab of glue to hold it in place. After getting the new unit all together I tested it in my 2005 Jetta and it worked perfectly. Installing the RFID chip into the new fob and especially the process of reassembling the spring and latch for the switchblade action was the hardest part, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone lacking mechanical understanding and the patience to keep trying until you get it right. It's probably possible to remove the RFID ampule without disassembling the upper case by fishing it out of a small hole if you know where to look and carefully pull it out with miniature tweezers. The ampule is glued in with a soft glue. The chip is read by circuitry around the ignition switch and the code number is relayed to the car's anti-theft security system that VW calls an immobilizer.

Just removed the guts of my worn out FOB and placed them into this one and works great. All buttons work now, key flips out just as it's supposed to. No complaints. Easy to swap out, everything fit perfectly and it was a nice price!

I bought this to replace the case on my Jetta’s key fob as the panic button on the side had long since gone on both my original key sets. I was more worried about dirt or pocket lint getting into the fob causing a malfunction that anything else. Replacements through VW? Didn’t even bother looking…If you take care to make sure that you are choosing the one that matches what you have, this works perfectly. If you don’t, then don’t complain about it not fitting as others have done in previous reviews. There are different types, and it is a little fiddly taking the old one apart and removing the circuit board. Breaking it is a real possibility. But do it right and this case is as good as the original.

Looked great until I got to the part where I tried to switch the laser etched key from the original fob, The original key didn't fit precisely and in order to work properly it has to do that. fail

I purchased this new case because the original key loop broke off, which made the fab easy to lose. Looks good, but functionality is mediocre. The key does not flip up like on the original fab. Also be sure to keep the small capsule looking chip from the original key or your VW won't start!

My original Jetta MKV Key blade roll pin and connector broke. A locksmith if you can find one who can do it wanted around $300. I got this key fob and swapped the key myself. Bet easy to do. !!HOWEVER!!! There’s a very tiny oval shaped electronic about the size of a grain of rice that you will need to make sure you get from the old fob. Otherwise, you’re going to the dealer.
