FreeCAD Basics Tutorial: Part Design, Assemblies, and Drawings

This book is a must have if you are seriously looking into learning Freecad. The lessons are easy to follow and builds your confidence. It’s a great reference as well.

As of 2024 the FreeCad version is .2 - so many of the instructions for options to select within certain dropdowns are no longer applicable to the program.

Book was written for v.17 and current version is v.18. Very little explanation on tools, especially external geometry. But versions are similar enough that by doing each part multiple times I developed a good understanding of how the freeecad system works.

Gave some vocabulary and examples but youtube tutorials better. Cheap guide but could have used more details and drawings. Like I said okay not great.

The first tutorial in the book can be followed. The second tutorial is not compatible with the update version .20. Also, following the instructions leads to multiple error messages. Do not buy this book until it is updated and proofread.

I've downloaded FreeCAD to my MAC and wanted a good, up-to-date tutorial. This is NOT it. The examples show screen shots (which are very difficult to read on the Kindle) that only have a vague relationship to the displays shown by a running version of FreeCAD. The book may have been written on the basis of an earlier version of FreeCAD, but, in any case, is not useful on the current FreeCAD. A waste of time and money (at Kindle prices, it's more a waste of time than of money.).

Several places in the instructions the steps are off and the icons do not match. The first major issue is the use of assembly2 in the instructions. Assembly2 is deprecated. The book has some value but it needs updating.

While this isn't a literary masterpiece, it gets the job done. for the price go for it!

Le livre est bien structuré et permet aux débutants de se familiariser avec Freecad sans trop de difficultés. Malgré le niveau, il offre la possibilité de dessiner des objets très élaborés. Bravo à l'auteur!

Kindle Version. Es sollte offensichtlich eine Schritt-für-Schritt Anleitung sein. Leider fehlen teilweise Schritte, was es einem Anfänger extrem schwer macht, nachzuvollziehen, was jetzt genau gemacht wurde. Dies führt auch dazu, dass es einem nicht möglich ist, jedes Teil fertigzustellen, weil irgendwann eine Fehlermeldung kommt, weil eben irgendwo ein Schritt nicht genau dokumentiert wurde.Nichtsdestotrotz bietet es eine gewisse Hilfe für Anfänger. Man darf einfach nicht erwarten, dass man die Teile auch fertig bauen kann.

I found this to be an excellent introduction that I could work through very quickly. Although there is plenty of FreeCAD documentation online, this book is very convenient to use, with good continuity and useful tutorial examples. Looking forward to Volume 2!
