Primer on Radiation Oncology Physics: Video Tutorials with Textbook and Problems 1st Edition

I am a radiation oncology resident and used this to prep for physics boards. It is concise, easily digestible for someone without a formal background in physics (especially with the interactive videos on the publisher's website), and easy to get through. Most importantly, it covered just about all of the relevant topics. I used this resource as well as several RAPHEX practice exams and felt very well-prepared for the actual exam without getting lost in the weeds of some of the classic textbooks that are good for a general reference, but not as much for board prep.

Picked Dr. Ford's book up to supplement physics while studying for ABR physics, chapters are easy to get through and do a great job of outlining key concepts. Problems are helpful to check for understanding without being overly complicated or mathematically intensive. A nice touch is that further references are provided if you need desire further understanding- I paired this with McDermott as a beefier text for certain concepts. Finally, having the videos to reinforce concepts you're reading is extremely helpful and keeps things interesting. Very good value.

What an excellent, comprehensive, and up to date overview of current medical physics practice. Dr. Ford's book, "Primer on Radiation Oncology Physics: Video Tutorials with Textbook and Problems," touches on all different learning styles, whether you are a visual, auditory, or tactile learner. This is a must-have resource for any medical physics learner or teacher.

I just took my ABR physics board and passed. This book was one of the great resource that I used for study. The problem sets at the end of each chapter and Tutorial Videos were so educational.

Many residency programs do a good job of teaching radiation oncology physics in preparation for the board exams. The standard textbooks (Khan, McDermott) provide a lot of detail and it is difficult to extract the most crucial points needed to learn and retain the information needed to pass boards.Dr. Ford has done an thorough and exemplary job of distilling the text and information needed for radiation oncology into a textbook that is not only fun to read but provides these details for easy reference. The companion videos on the website help reinforce the topics presented in the text to facilitate retention. The book also references the McDermott test, so if you are using that book this primer is an efficient and high-yield way to solidify that knowledge.This is the kind of textbook that you will keep on your shelf as an attending physician and refer to it to help reinforce key concepts during practice that can affect patient care. I am very glad that I have this resource in preparation for the physics component of the licensing exam.

I am a radiation oncology physicist and have been teaching the subject for 15 years to medical residents, physics residents, and therapy, dosimetry, and physics students. This is the best book yet written for medical residents as well as therapy and dosimetry students for its clear and simple explanations and its prioritization of concepts. I read it from cover-to-cover, which just shouldn't happen with a medical physics textbook. It is also strikingly up-to-date, even referring to just-released or forthcoming material. Although the treatment isn't advanced enough for physicists to learn everything from (it is a "primer" after all), any teaching physicist should look at this for a model on how to approach the material and present it. My only complaint is that the reader is frequently referred to accompanying videos for detail, and I personally am not a video person.

Bought this book to study for physics boards due to content and questions. Unfortunately, the questions do not come with answers or explanations. Reached out to the publisher and they won’t release the answers unless you are a certified instructor. Returning the book. Very disappointed!

I purchased and have read through this book and feel that it cover all relevant topics in a manner that is appropriate for and digestible by radiation oncology residents. The text is easy to read, the videos are helpful and succinct, and the problem sets ask germane questions.
