Does the zipper start from the top? My current one zips starting from the top down and it's hard to get zipped with a wiggling toddler.

There are two zipper bodies on the main zipper. One zips down and the other zips up. When the sleep sack is closed there is one zipper on the bottom and one zipper on the top.

How is the color on this product? It looks light tan with tan arms, not very appealing. Does it look nicer in person?

I think it's really cute! My daughter looked adorable in it (though she's now outgrown it). The body is more of a winter white...or dark eggshell. The tan is a nice contrast, and the sleeves are removable.

Can the sleeves be turned into mittens for the hands?

Not actual mittens, no. But the sleeves were a bit long for my baby, so her hands were kind of inside the sleeves. In the morning, her hands would be warmer than if they had been completely outside, and provided some protection from accidental scratching.
