180 Doodle Quilting Designs: Free-Motion Ideas for Blocks, Borders, and Beyond

I have been experimenting with free-motion stitching for a couple of years. I have primarily used it as a form of free-motion embroidery but have wanted to learn how to use it in my quilting projects as well.I have been both hand and machine quilting for decades but on a casual basis, so I consider myself still an advanced beginner or maybe even intermediate at this point. I needed some guidance for how to start with the free-motion quilting process (which is definitely more structured than free-motion embroidery.) When I saw this quilting tutorial book, I bought it immediately as it seemed to be the answer for my needs.It is all of that and more. The book is filled with lots of embroidery patterns that can be traced or used for inspiration. Each of the patterns gives a short blurb on where or how it can be used. There is also a short tutorial at the beginning of the book which walks you through tracing, free-hand doodling, and finally practicing the patterns on your machine.I currently have a mechanical sewing machine set up with a low tension bobbin for use in free-motion stitching. It's a dream of mine to someday own a long-arm machine as well. I was really happy to read another reviewer's comment that these patterns can be utilized in long arm stitching, too.All in all, the book answers my needs and does it with lots of patterns for me to have fun trying. I'm looking forward to many hours utilizing the information in this book and find it a really valuable tool.

Great ideas for free motion quilting

Bought this book as a gift. I don’t quilt so I know nothing of the quality of the content. The book was listed as “new,” however, it seems to be lightly used. The back cover has a bend in it and all along the edges and corners, the cover has slight damage. This may be “new” in the sense that no one has owned/read this book, but it appears to have quite a bit of “shelf wear.” Had I known this wasn’t brand new, I wouldn’t have spent what I did on it to give it as a gift.

Wonderful book for machine quilting.

I purchased this book after getting a copy from my local library. I've been able to photocopy and re-size onto tracing paper (to sew over) the designs to fit slightly larger (120%) blocks. I can't draw my way out of a box, esp with my machine, so this is enabling me to get a feel for fmq'ing. I love the square, triangle and sashing designs and am making a sampler quilt withe designs. TY to all the creators who contributed to it!

I leafed thru this book and it looks very helpful for learning FMQ.

Somewhat disappointed, I was expecting more feather designs.

Just received this in post. Has loads of FMQ patterns to practice with and hopefully get comfortable enough to create on an actual piece. The instructions are great, shows directional arrows on patterns to help you create the design. It has beautiful simplistic types and goes up to more intricate designs. Very much looking forward to experimenting with this book.

le livre en anglais (mais c'est pas vraiment gênant car ce qui compte ici ce sont les motifs!) présente les idées de matelassage classées par catégories telles que -traduites approximativement - le quilting à base de carrés, de zig zag, de flèches, de lignes courbes, de rubans, de cercles, de fleurs, de plumes. différentes autrices ont participé à l'élaboration du livre.Points forts : les motifs sont montrés avec les chemins à suivre pour les effectuer, ce qui est très bien. par ailleurs ils sont montrés lorsqu'ils sont quiltés dans un triangle, un carré et en bordure, ce qui donne une bonne idée du rendu final ultérieur.Seul petit bémol pour les bordures : elles sont montrées pour aller de bord à bord mais pas en angles avec la manière de les tourner.

Me encanta. Sobre todo porque SD un mismo modelo te lo enseña en varias formas triangular o cuadrado y en bordes.
