Good, solid prop gun

We wanted a prop gun for our photo booth that would be "close enough" to the TV show "Supernatural" Colt. Yes, the show has a Paterson 1836... But those are generally 3d printed and breakable, or too expensive to want to put into the possible hands of convention goers.Did a gunmetal patina finish and etched the handle in a TV show appropriate pentacle, and it looks great in our photo booth photos... at a fraction of the cost!

A good start to replica piece

First Impression ---I was surprised how good this replica looked and felt when I first pulled it out of the box. Since it is made of metal it has a nice weight to it and the plastic handle looks like polished wood. The trigger function is a fun little thing to play with too.The Functionality ---Like the other reviewer says, but the product description doesn't for some reason, this is a replica of a 1851 Navy Colt. If you want to look at the pictures on-line you'll see the similarities. This gun is single action like the real thing (you must cock the hammer with your thumb then pull the trigger) But the cylinder doesn't rotate in this action, although you can free spin it if you wish. The Navy Colt was a cap and ball gun and this replica looks like it could fire those little red caps that used to go in toy guns though I'm not sure. If you're not sure what I'm talking about do a search for "cap gun" in toys and look for the little red circles. The parts are all connected so you can't disassemble the gun like you would the real thing. But for thirty some odd dollars I'm not worried about it.The Look ---The first thing you notice about the look is the decoration all over the metal. There is a raised design that looks like vines all over the gun. The gun has "THE U.S. .36" on two sides of the cylinder. It looks really close to the Navy Colt. If someone walked up to it and knew what one looked like they would probably correctly identify it.The Details ---The cylinder is hollow. If you look in it there isn't a tube for each chamber but most people would not notice it. There is a place on the left side of the gun below the cylinder where I can barely make out "Colt ----" I'm assuming the last part says 1851. It's supposed to be raised but is almost unnoticeable on mine. Something that struck me as weird was a marlin on the gun. When I saw it I automatically thought of Marlin Firearms. When you start looking real close you'll notice the metal seems rough like it was thrown around in the factory and has rough grinding work. Other than that the only other tiny thing is some of the screws are in the right place but some are in the wrong place or not represented on the replica. The Handle ---The handle is the worst part of the replica. not because it doesn't look right but because it is incredibly cheap. I haven't been rough with the replica and one side of the handle has already fallen off, but it snaps back into place. On a couple of spots though the wood painting is flaking off on both sides. This part of the replica has no quality to it what so everThe Stand ---It is pretty cheap, plastic with a wood grain carved in the base. The uprights that support the gun are suppose to look like ivory but are also cheap plastic. I would be very gentle with it because I bet it would break very easily. The Verdict ---This is a real good start to a replica. The only thing I think NEEDS to be fixed is the handle. Everything else is of the quality you would expect for a thirty dollar replica. For a few more dollars I bet they could make an amazingly realistic replica with a cylinder that rotates with the hammer and can be disassembled.I would definitely recommend this for someone looking for a decent replica of 1851 Navy Colt.

Perfect movie prop

For the money, these are great guns for anyone looking to make a western. The picture here is after I altered them with paint. You can get several different looks. The revolver barrel does not turn as you fire, but the hammer does cock back and the trigger works. The gun will arrive looking cheap and fake IMHO, but a little black paint on the handle makes it look like real wood and then the metal parts can be weathered as you like. (If you're filming, match these with a foam revolver that you can likewise paint so that you have a gun that can be safely thrown around or used to knock someone's noggin. Foam gun on Amazon under "foam western revolver".)

It’s great

It’s realistic and for the price it’s super cool to carry a round and it’s a really detailed gun and it’s full metal the handle it’s plastic but it’s don’t look that cheap honestly it’s great

Will not be mistaken for a real Colt but descent deco piece

WHY the hole with no screw in it on the "good" display side???? Looks like something is missing. Other side does not have the hole, but has the unnecessary, obnoxious "Made in China" on the frame below the cylinder. Gun is overly ornate. No actual firearm ever had such raised ornate extremism. actual guns were engraved. The hammer, trigger and grips are plastic. The barrel has a silly plug in it. The base of the stand is fine but the supports are a whitish cheap looking plastic. Whip out the can of black spray paint....much better.Overall it is still an interesting piece for a deco item. To get an authentic replica will cost $100 or more. You decide. I had my Colt on display for awhile, but some people don't understand the value of antique arms, so this will take it's place while the Colt goes into a locked glass case,This revolver would be great as a costume accessory. Cock the hammer, pull the trigger and the hammer falls. Cylinder does not rotate when cocking. You can turn cylinder when hammer is back (no half cock).

Cool prop for a cowboy costume, but not con friendly.

This item looked great online, and I wouldn't have been disappointed if it had been plastic, but the metal makes it feel like the real thing. Its got a nice amount of weight to carry around and it feels good in the hand. I am planning a few cowboy cosplays that I wanted a nice prop for, and this fits the bill nicely, aside from not being able to take it to conventions as it would appear and feel too realistic for that purpose. Any ways, I give it an A+
