Good bag for a date night/outings!

I loved the design and the retro vibe. However, it was returned only because it was just too small for my liking. This was most likely my fault - i should have paid better attention to the description.

I love the clean design of the bag itself. It is hard sided so you can search for small items quickly and easily. Zipper is heavy duty and does not seem prone to catching on items inside. Strap is a comfortable length and stays put on the shoulder. Then there is the chrome finish. It is beautiful. Perfect for evening but I think it can do daytime duty too.

JW Pei is just as good as any other brand. Their designs and prices are excellent for the quality you get. This bag will definitely make you stand out , you won’t go unnoticed. Every bag from this brand is amazing

****update Feb 2026**** the zipper is breaking on me everytime I close the bag. I don't understand how it went from perfect to bad... the zipper problem is annoying.... I would not buy this bag again... I am knocking off a star.... I purchased the bag on June 2024, and I can safely say I am ready to write a review about the JW Pei Bag shoulder bag in the color black. A little about me first. I use a medium tote as my everyday bag for work, school, errands, etc., and the JW Pei is my nightlife little bag or when I grabbing a cup of coffee with my girlfriends. I have already used the bag about two handful of times. My initial thoughts once I held the bag in my hands is that it's light. Perfect bag for date night or those times where I'll have to carry a bag for a few hours. The leather quality is soft yet sturdy. The size is perfect for just my wallet, cellphone, chapstick, and keys due to the shape of the bag. One side can carry more items than the other side - please see the picture. The cute metal ring is detachable allowing versatility - separate purchase if I wanted to turn it into a crossbody. So far I love the bag until January 2025. On January 2025, I noticed a tear on the sides of the strap where the rubber seals the leather. Both tears are located on same side of the purse, the roomier side. Please see pictures. Be aware the bag is fragile. I'm kinda annoyed and I don't know how to fix it. Does anybody know or had the same problem? I read how people didn't like the zipper because of the size, the quality, etc., but I had no qualms about it after using the bag for 6 months. The leather is still beautiful, the functionality is there... value for the money is OK. I paid ~$70 for about 10 uses and it is already breaking on me.

I’ve been eyeing this particular JW Pei style for months. It’s a highly underrated bag — you’ll see few reviews on TikTok and IG for this. But as it’s reminiscent of Aesther Ekme and The Row, at this price point ($129CAD) I had to give it a try. First, the color. It’s a rich cognac shade that will do just as well this summer as it will in the fall (although my palette is pretty consistent year round — I’m in neutrals in any season). It does lean ever so slightly orange, depending on what you’re wearing it against. Although I’m typically averse to orange, it’s not so much that it bothers me. And the gold hardware is not gaudy at all; it’s soft and subtle and just right. Next, the shape and size. The asymmetry is so much fun. It fits comfortably over the shoulder, even with a thick jacket or sweater. If you carry a lot, you’re not going to be satisfied with the capacity of this bag, but if you’re like me and only carry a card case, keys, lip gloss, mints, AirPods and a lot of loose, forgotten receipts, it’ll do just fine. The photo I’ve posted shows how a card case fits at the highest point. Lots of room. The zipper is smooth, too. No issues there. Overall, for a little over $120, it’s a sound purchase. I must have a thing right now for what a friend calls “crooked handbags,” because this is guaranteed to be in regular rotation with my black Ekme Lune (crooked) and my cream Staud Acute (crooked). Way cheaper than those two, though, so for now, JW Pei for the win.
