Do not buy from this seller. Read my review
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!!!After installation, the controller would not allow gas to flow through to the pilot tube. I'm a plumber and install about 100 water heaters a year. I also repair water heaters. Although rare, it occoccasionally happens to purchasing a controller and it does not work right out of the box.. about 10 times in my 16 year career as a plumber. However, this seller will not make right on the issue. Will not send a new one as nor give me a refund. Since this is a third party seller, Amazon will not help me either. Do not buy from this seller, buy froma different seller.

Best replacement
My water heater is about 13 years old but it still looks brand new. It started acting up on me and would not stay on. Pilot light was on and I reset the control valve by turning it off and then back on again. It would fire up but the light on the valve kept blinking 5 times saying it was the temperature sensor failure. I looked up videos on YouTube on diagnosing the issue and finding out how to swap out the control valve hoping that was the problem. I ordered this valve and it arrived in about 2 days. I removed the old valve and replaced it with this one and it fired up right away. It has been working perfect ever since.

Works great, but shipping was terrible
Ordered on a Friday. I was sent a message that I would receive on Sunday. However, I received another message on Sunday saying the order was delayed and to expect delivery within one to two days. That made me a little perturbed because I pay for Prime and expect my orders within two days, I had also been without hot water for the entire weekend. Amazon needs to fix the shipping issue quickly. As far as the part goes. I had to drain water heater below level of this part which took a little while. Once I got that drained, the old one screwed out and screwed this one in no problem, had this installed within 30 minutes and had hot water within a few hours. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, I would call somebody. I am not a licensed plumber, but fortunately for me, my Dad was and I picked up some things along the way.

Check This out before buying a new Gas Control Valve
I also had the dreaded issue with the 4 blinking light code (High Temperature Shutdown). As others have noted, there appeared to be no way to reset the unit, so I ordered this replacement. While waiting for the replacement to show up, I did a search on YouTube and found there is a way to reset the unit. I followed the instructions from YouTube and the water heater fired back up and has been working since. I kept the new one because I feel sure the old one must be on it's way out and I want to have the replacement ready.Quick recap on how to reset. 1) Move the control to "off" and allow to sit for 10 minutes (allowing any gas to clear out before restarting). 2) Move the control to "Pilot" and while pressing in the control switch press the ignitor until the light start blinking (this is normal process for lighting the water heater). 3) Once the light is blinking, move the control to its hottest position, and wait 10 seconds (count from 1 to 10). 4) Now move the control back to "Hot" and count to 10. 5) Move the control back to "Pilot" and wait 10 seconds. 6) Move the control back to "Hot" and the water heater should light. As previously stated, check out the video on YouTube that demonstrates someone actually performing the procedure. I would strongly suggest you purchase a replace control valve so next time it fails you have a replacement unit and will not have to wait with no Hot Water.
